THE PICNORI GUIDE
Image conversion guide
Need a different format for an upload, or a transparent logo for your next project? Here is how to choose your settings, compare the results and save your files.
| Output | Transparency | Quality | Common uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Filled with a color | 50–100% | Photos, product images |
| PNG | Supported | Lossless | Logos, screenshots |
| WebP | Supported | 50–100% | Web images |
1. Choose your images
Use Choose images or drop files into the converter. Picnori accepts PNG, JPG (JPEG) and static WebP. Animated WebP and PNG, GIF, HEIC, SVG and AVIF are not supported in this version.
Choose up to 20 files, at most 20 MB each and 100 MB combined. Each image can contain up to 32 million pixels. An 8,000 × 4,000 image is within the limit; an 8,000 × 5,000 image is not.
2. Pick a format for the job
Start with JPG for photographs, PNG for transparent logos and screenshots with sharp text, and WebP for images on a website. Make sure the destination accepts the format you choose.
Unlike changing a filename extension, Picnori re-encodes the actual image data. Selecting the same format also re-encodes the image, so its size and quality may change.
3. Set quality and transparency
JPG and WebP quality ranges from 50 to 100%, starting at 90%. Try the default, inspect the comparison, and lower quality if the result is too large. The number is an encoder setting, not a measured percentage of original image quality.
JPG has no transparency. When you convert a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG, transparent areas are filled with your chosen background color. PNG and WebP output retain transparency. The quality slider does not apply to PNG.
4. Compare and download
Convert images processes files one at a time. A failed file does not stop the rest. Each result displays its size and percentage change. Use Compare to view the original and the converted image side by side.
Download files individually or get all successful results in a ZIP. Duplicate names receive a number, such as “photo (2).jpg”, so files are not overwritten in the archive. If ZIP creation fails, use individual downloads. Combined results are limited to 150 MB.
On mobile, check your browser’s download list or Files app. Closing or refreshing the page clears the work list and results you have not downloaded.
5. Understand size, orientation and color
Dimensions follow the image as decoded and oriented by your browser. A photo with rotation metadata may have its width and height swapped to preserve its displayed orientation. Picnori does not upscale or reconstruct missing detail.
Converting photos to PNG often produces larger files. PNG cannot restore detail already lost in JPG compression. A quality setting of 100% does not mean the output is identical to the original.
Original EXIF, GPS and ICC metadata may not be preserved. Browser color management can affect output colors. Keep your originals and independently verify results for print or color-critical work.
6. Troubleshoot a conversion
A file that looks supported may be damaged or have an extension that does not match its content. Try saving it again as PNG or JPG in the original application.
If a format cannot be encoded, try another format or an updated browser. Picnori checks the actual output format and will not download a different format with a misleading extension.
For large images, try fewer files and close other tabs. A device can run out of available memory even when a file meets the size and resolution limits.
